Pearl Earrings With Diamonds: Pearl was wearing her pearl earrings with diamonds. Pearl and her mother went shopping. Pearl’s mother was also known as mother of Pearl. Pearl saw her friend Daisy and both exclaimed with delight. But mother of Pearl did not seem too pleased. She never liked Daisy or Daisy’s mother. Pearl and her mother continued to shop. They looked through the windows as they talked about this and that. They stopped at a jewelry store window examining the display. Pearl said “I prefer diamonds look how they glitter.” Pearl’s mother said, “No pearls are much nicer.” They strolled through the mall looking at clothes but Pearl never stopped thinking about what she had seen. Now it was Pearl’s mother who ran into a friend. She exclaimed “Oh Rose, how nice to see you!” To which Rose answered, “And you my dear Bertha, now would this be little Pearl?” “Oh my how she’s grown!” and other stuff like that. As the two older women chatted, Pearl excused herself and said she’d be at the jewelry store window. This gave the two women the chance to talk privately and compare notes on their kids. Pearl’s mother never liked braggarts but how she loved to brag about her daughter. But Rose had her beat this time as she announced that Minnie got engaged. That wiped the smile right off of Bertha’s face. They bid their farewells and Bertha rejoined Pearl at the window. With a new worried tone Pearl’s mother asked “What are you looking at my dear?” Pearl looked up with a smile and said “Mom, look at those pearl earrings with diamonds!”
